The trade deadline is nearly here, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to make a deadline-day deal. Earlier Tuesday, Jakobi Meyers was sent to Jacksonville, and now another receiver that could have potentially
landed in Pittsburgh is off the board.
New Orleans Saints deal speedster wideout ahead of deadline
Rashid Shaheed is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL insider Adam Schefter. The former Saint joins an elite Seattle receiver room that contains the NFL’s receiving yards leader, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Shaheed was another receiver rumored to potentially land in Pittsburgh, leaving general manager Omar Khan with even more limited options. Heading into deadline day, it was evident that the Steelers have two primary needs: a receiver and a member of the secondary. Quiet thus far, who remains on the board at the receiver position for Pittsburgh?
Notable names Steelers could still acquire at WR
With clear interest in Meyers and rumors swirling around Shaheed, the Steelers must now pivot if they hope to land a wideout.
Miami Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle is a name that has generated considerable interest as the Fins continue to struggle in 2025. If Waddle were to be dealt, he would re-assume his WR2 role behind DK Metcalf.
The New York Jets are having a fire sale on Tuesday, dealing key defensive players CB Sauce Gardner and DT Quinnen Williams. If general manager Darren Mougey continues to sell, top wideout Garrett Wilson could be a target for Pittsburgh.
Wilson has 395 receiving yards and four touchdowns through six games this season. The Jets’ WR1 has battled injuries in 2025, stunting his playing time. Wilson would likely require a hefty return if Pittsburgh were to acquire him. However, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has substantial familiarity with the receiver after their time together in New York.
Finally, another Saints wideout, Chris Olave, has been another name rumored to be on the move. There is no question that New Orleans is a seller on deadline day, as they currently have the joint-worst record in the NFL.
Olave, 25, would be a huge splash as the young star is in just his fourth NFL season. Similar to Wilson, Olave would likely require an expensive price tag.
With just over an hour to go before the deadline, will Pittsburgh make a splash, and how substantial could it be?
