The Philadelphia Eagles were among teams that showed interest in Quenton Nelson before the Indianapolis Colts traded their All-Pro guard to the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday morning, according to a report from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears were also mentioned to be in the mix.
Fowler notes that these teams “showed varying levels of interest,” so, it’s unclear just how serious the Eagles were about acquiring Nelson. Or exactly when their interest was expressed.
It’s
not hard to imagine Howie Roseman calling the Colts about Nelson’s availability because 1) he’s always ready to make a big trade and 2) the Eagles’ offensive line situation hasn’t been very good this season. It was previously reported that Roseman was shopping for a starting caliber blocker.
But with the Eagles dropping their fifth straight game to drop to 2-5, it’s much easier to picture the Eagles as sellers instead of buyers ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline. This doesn’t mean Roseman can’t acquire a player who could conceivably help the team for years to come. It does seem like the Eagles won’t be interested in high-cost one-year rentals, however, which is what Nelson qualifies as since the 30-year-old is a free agent after this season.
A few more Eagles thoughts related to this trade:
- The Eagles host the Seahawks in Week 15. This move makes Seattle better, which is good if you’re rooting for Philly to lose and maximize their draft positioning.
- Nelson was acquired in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick. The Eagles got more for trading Cam Jurgens (plus a 2027 seventh-round pick) for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
- The Nelson trade might point to more of a buyer’s market than a seller’s market, which isn’t what the Eagles want to see if they’re planning to deal players ahead of the deadline.
