There has been plenty of NWSL news to discuss recently, with Sophia Wilson returning to the Portland Thorns and everybody eagerly awaiting an announcement on the NWSL’s proposed new “High Impact Player”
rule.
Three NWSL teams recently made signings: rookie defender Kolo Suliafu from the University of Washington signed with the Kansas City Current, goalkeeper Laurel Ivory signed with the Boston Legacy expansion team, and midfielder Jordan Fusco re-signed with the San Diego Wave.
Kolo Suliafu signs with the Kansas City Current
Kolo Suliafu signed with the Kansas City Current through 2026, the club announced on Tuesday. Suliafu most recently played for the University of Washington.
“Kolo has proven herself to be an incredible defender,” said general manager Ryan Dell. “Her defensive prowess at the collegiate level did not go unnoticed and she was instrumental in leading Washington to one of their best seasons in program history this year. We are excited to have Kolo, a player with tremendous potential, in our system. We’re confident she will continue to develop and grow here in Kansas City while adding to our competitive environment.”
“I’m so excited to be joining the KC Current and to play in front of such passionate supporters,” said Suliafu. “You can feel the momentum around this club, and I’m proud to be part of something so big. I can’t wait to step into the competitive environment that will drive me to become not only a better player within my development but better person as well.”
Suliafu was the 2025 Big Ten Defender of the Year and has been called up to the Under-17 and Under-20 US Youth National teams.
Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory signs with the Boston Legacy
Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory has signed a two year contract with Boston Legacy FC after leaving the Kansas City Current in free agency, the club announced on Wednesday.
Ivory said in a press release that she was a “die hard New England fan.”
“What doesn’t excite me about joining Boston Legacy FC? I’m a die hard New England fan. Was born and raised a New England fan,” said Ivory. “The fact that I can be a part of Boston sports history in some way, shape, or form means the world to me and I’m really excited to build something in a sports town that means so much to me. To help facilitate building that and hopefully get a good foundation underneath this club culturally that it’s just going to flourish in the years to come – if I can be one piece of it, it would be an honor and a dream regardless of my role on or off the field. I just want to be part of building something here.”
“We are very happy to have Laurel Ivory join our roster at Boston Legacy FC,” said Legacy general manager Domè Guasch. “Laurel already has a fantastic track record in the NWSL and has used her very strong youth national team experience as a springboard to have a solid career here in the league. She has a real connection to the Boston area and is exactly the type of player our fans will connect with. On top of her quality as a goalkeeper, she brings great energy and personality. We’re confident she’ll play an important role in our team.”
Ivory played two matches for the Current this past season, keeping clean sheets in both. Before that, she played for the Seattle Reign.
Legacy FC previously announced the signing of goalkeeper Casey Murphy.
Midfielder Jordan Fusco signs new contract with San Diego Wave
Midfielder Jordan Fusco has signed a new two year contract with the San Diego Wave, the club announced on Wednesday. Fusco will be on loan with the Tampa Bay Sun through June 2026.
“In her first professional season, Jordan has taken full advantage of her time with our staff with Wave FC and is showing the kind of professional growth we value,” said Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Jordan to continue her development and gain valuable experience as she takes on a new challenge.”
