As sweet as that 41-6 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers by the Seattle Seahawks felt, there was some significant history made in the game. The 35-point Seahawks win was their largest margin of victory
in the playoffs, tied with their Super Bowl 48 win over the Denver Broncos (43-8). Seattle also handed 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan the heaviest loss of his career. Shanahan’s previous worst defeat was 40-10 to the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, his first year as head coach and with C.J. Beathard at quarterback.
In Seattle’s last game against the 49ers, the Seahawks handed Shanahan his worst offensive performance of his career, limiting the Niners to a field goal and 173 yards of offense.
Before the game, Shanahan made it a point to say that he felt like the last game was a fight where they never had a chance to throw a punch, and were looking forward to another shot. Rashid Shaheed delivered the game-winning touchdown on the first play of the game, and Seattle’s defense started to get rolling.
Shanahan went for it multiple times on fourth down with no success, and Seattle took advantage of three turnovers. The Seahawks kept their foot on the 49ers throats and didn’t let up until the final two drives when Drew Lock was in with the rest of the backups. The final result was a record-making Seahawks win that sent Shanahan packing with his worst loss as 49ers head coach. Just beautiful!
