The January transfer window is still a few weeks away but the rumor mill is starting to get excited about the possibility of Barcelona signing a defender in January.
All of the big outlets in Spain are reporting that Barcelona want to bring in a new defender to bolster the backline for the second half of the season.
Injuries and familiar failings at the back have led Hansi Flick to open the door to the arrival of a new defender, according to Marca, although “the move is not yet finalized and depends
on several sporting and financial factors.”
Over at Diario Sport, there’s a similar report but also a warning that signing in January won’t be easy. However, there could be a solution if the club were to offload a major player.
And that’s where Jules Kounde comes in, according to reporter Matteo Moretto. He’s told DAZN Espana: “Barça is going to listen to offers for Koundé. Chelsea is already inquiring about him.”
Interest from Chelsea is nothing new but seems to keep cropping up, particularly with Kounde no longer first choice at Camp Nou.
The defender previously rejected a move to Stamford Bridge in favor of signing for Barca but that doesn’t seem to have put the big-spending Blues off the Frenchman.
