For the first time since his 2017 firing, former Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich will return to the Derby City for a Cardinal sporting event.
Jurich will attend next Friday night’s home football game against Clemson and is scheduled to be brought onto the field and introduced to the crowd at the end of the first quarter.
Last June, the school renamed a section of Floyd Street on U of L’s campus “Tom Jurich Way” and held a ceremony in Jurich’s honor. It was his first return to the city since
2017.
Jurich took over as Louisville’s athletic director on October 21, 1997. In the two decades that transpired since, Jurich oversaw an unprecedented period of success for U of L athletics, one that included the meteoric rise of the football, baseball and women’s basketball programs, a national championship in men’s basketball, and a move to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
In 2007, Jurich was selected as the Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily Athletic Director of the Year. Jurich also became the award’s first two-time finalist in 2013.
Should be a cool moment next Friday, especially if …. you know, Louisville is winning and still in the midst of the College Football Playoff race.
