From wholesome to completely unhinged in record time …
No. 2-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Ian Garry challenges champion Islam Makhachev for the 170-pound strap in UFC 330’s main event this weekend (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026) inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As he has for the past several years, Garry brought his son, Leo Garry, along for fight week.
After Garry faced off with Makhachev for the first time yesterday in front of Philadelphia’s iconic Rocky
Statue, Leo wanted to meet the Welterweight champion because he is apparently a big fan. Unfortunately, Makhachev took off before the two could meet.
Leo became upset and started crying, but Garry reassured his son that he would have another chance to meet Makhachev later in the week.
During UFC 330 media day (watch here), Makhachev explained that he had not seen the little boy. He promised to meet Leo before the week was over and “make him happy.”
Super wholesome and all good, right?
Well, top-ranked Heavyweight contender and resident loudmouth Josh Hokit hopped onto social media and took things to an entirely different level.
“Try to play that game and have your kid shake my hand … I’d punt that f—king kid,” Hokit wrote.
Yeah, sure, bud—here is the attention you wanted because I am writing about it.
For what it’s worth, fellow Heavyweight Valter Walker ripped Hokit for his edgy comments.
“Any jackass with two personalities, just so he can hide behind one of them, is a complete idiot,” Walker wrote. “Just shut up. Incredible shit.”
Nevertheless, expect a clip of Garry’s son finally meeting Makhachev at some point before UFC 330. Hopefully, Hokit can restrain himself from threatening any more children in the meantime.
