Bayern Munich have slowed their acquisition of young talent in recent years as power at the Bayern Campus has traded hands. As the leadership finally solidifies, however, the Bavarians are able to strengthen their youth academy with some signings again. According to Florian Plettenberg, one such signing has already happened in early March as RB Salzburg gem Matteo Maric seems set to land in Munich:
Matteo Maric to FC Bayern – DONE DEAL.
Full agreement with the player’s side. Contracts signed today.
The 16 y/o midfield top talent will join Bayern from RB Salzburg for the new season and move to the Campus. A compensation fee will be due. RB wanted to extend his contract, but the player’s side requested a release clause which the club was not willing to include.
The youngster has gone through multiple clubs in his short youth career to date, going from the youth teams of clubs such as LASK through Blau-Weiß Linz in Austria before landing in Salzburg in 2024. From then, he jumped from the U-15s to the U-16s and through to the U-18s in a matter of just a year. Now it seems his journey will continue in Munich.
BFW Analysis
For anyone who wants to get an impression of the player, check out this video. What is immediately obvious is that the youngster is massive for his age yet his technique is that of a much smaller player. Especially at that age, the mind is adapting to the way the body is growing and that can lead to some technical lapses for such tall players. That Maric is able to still demonstrate his technical quality is a big testament to his quality as a player.
