Cincinnati Bengals
kicker Evan McPherson has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, the NFL announced Thursday.McPherson, now in his sixth season, converted all eight field-goal attempts and eight extra points in Cincinnati’s three September games. His 32 points scored tied for the most by any NFL kicker, while his total field goals tied for the most by an AFC kicker. He also led all kickers in field goals made from 50+ yards with five.
The 27-year-old McPherson opened the
season vs. Tampa Bay in Week 1 by going 4/4 on his field-goal attempts, including makes of 55 and 58 yards. He became the first kicker in Bengals history and is the only NFL kicker this season to make multiple kicks from 55 yards or beyond in a game.
McPherson followed that up with another pair of field goals from 50+ yards in Week 2 at Houston. He then hit from 50 yards and 38 yards in the Bengals’ Week 3 game at Pittsburgh. His five field goals from 50+ yards are the most in a single month in Bengals history. He’s made his last 20 field-goal attempts overall dating back to Week 11 of last season, which is the second-longest streak in team history behind 21 consecutive field goals by Shayne Graham in 2007.
This is McPherson’s second AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award of his career. He last earned it in December of the 2021 season.
