There is a certain monster in Bayern Munich that awakens when they face Hamburg SV in the Allianz Arena. The team is keen on entertaining the fans and giving them the bang for their buck, and resultantly several teams lose to the Bavarians with sizeable goal differences.
Said monster awoke today, three matchdays into Bayern’s 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign. Facing HSV at home with their A-team was perhaps excessive but accordingly it was a goal fest — four goals in the first half alone. Serge Gnabry,
though an often quiet character in big games, saw this game as his chance. Three minutes into the game, he opened up the scoring with a fantastic goal. Despite the extremely narrow angle, the winger made it count, hitting it right into the top corner. Flashes of his former self have been appearing since the beginning of 2025/26, and this performance came as no surprise as a result.
Currently, Gnabry sits in the final year of his contract that ends next July. Questions of his future in the club have been around for a while now. Tackling a question on the same following the game, Gnabry emphasized that his focus was on the now and his performance.
“I’m not focused on that at the moment. I’m focused on my performance, there are good arguments right now. Everything else we’ll see afterwards,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia.
When asked on whether he wants to stay, he leaves it rather ambiguous — ‘‘I wouldn’t rule that out, of course. We’ll see,” he declared.
Bayern Munich returned to action in the Bundesliga by hosting Hamburger SV and just crushed the visitors.
The Bavarians took home a 5-0 victory in a game that was never close. Bayern Munich was dominant from the outset and wasted little time in giving Hamburg a not so friendly welcome back to Germany’s top flight.
