Newcastle United’s summer overhaul is far from complete, with the club still looking to add another goalkeeper, and at least one fullback and one midfielder, depending on what happens with other potential sales before the transfer window closes.
Those plans will likely include further departures of bench players, and Chronicle Live’s Sean McCormick reported that Joe Willock is now among the senior players most vulnerable to being sold.
The 26-year-old has been at Newcastle since 2021 and has delivered
important performances during that spell, including a goal away to European champion Paris Saint-Germain last season, but has lost ground of late due to the improvement of other first-team players.
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle’s pursuit of another midfielder has placed Willock’s future under increasing pressure.
“When Manzambi was expected to join Newcastle, it felt like he was a direct replacement for Willock, who won’t be short of Premier League suitors this summer,” Chronicle Live reported.
Although Johan Manzambi chose to join Aston Villa instead of the Magpies, Newcastle remains in the market for an alternative. That leaves Willock competing for a place alongside Joelinton, Lewis Miley, Jacob Ramsey, and new signing Sean Steur — and Bruno too if he ultimately stays and outright takes one XI spot.
Willock has been a useful squad player under Eddie Howe, but injuries and increased competition have prevented him from securing a consistent starting role during the past couple of seasons.
Newcastle has not yet received a formal offer, but Chronicle Live expects the midfielder to attract Premier League interest.
