Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign a Newcastle United striker ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Mourinho, recently appointed as Real Madrid’s manager following Alvaro Arbeloa’s exit, is considering a transfer for Nick Woltemade in an attempt to bolster the Spaniards’ forward unit this summer.
The report comes from Ignacio Sanchez, who posted on X that Mourinho has asked Real Madrid to pursue a striker with a more traditional penalty-box profile.
Sanchez reported that Dusan Vlahovic is Mourinho’s preferred target, but added that Woltemade has also been discussed if Real Madrid cannot complete that move.
“Jose Mourinho remains determined to sign a forward with a high-level box poacher profile,” Sanchez wrote. “He has asked the Board to make an effort for Vlahovic and has put another name on the table: Nick Woltemade.”
The report also claims that Mourinho has proposed a swap deal involving a prominent, undisclosed Real Madrid player.
“The German wants to leave Newcastle and the Portuguese has proposed to the Club to offer a swap with a prominent player from the squad,” Sanchez wrote.
Woltemade joined Newcastle from Stuttgart last summer in a club-record deal worth up to £69 million. The 24-year-old scored 12 goals and added five assists in 54 appearances last season.
What makes this reported swap possibility unlikely, however, is who might go Tyneside’s way. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. are perennial Ballon d’Or candidates, Newcastle would probably like a forward/striker in return, and the only option remotely available, Endrick, is expected to return to Real Madrid and feature prominently starting next season after spending the second half of last year on loan at Lyon and performing impressively.
Woltemade is under contract at Newcastle through 2031, and it doesn’t look like his next team will be Real Madrid, at least one going the way of this report.
