Well lookee there, we do have a team capable of winning a championship in the Phillies organization.
The Reading Fightin’ Phils took home their first Eastern League championship since 1995 by running the table during the postseason, finishing off the Erie SeaWolves to win it all. A 14 hit barrage was the reason for this victory in which five hitters had a multi hit game, giving the pitching
staff more than enough to take home the trophy.
Dante Nori was the one that led the way, knocking around three hits and scoring three runs out of the number two spot in the lineup. Raylin Heredia, Aidan Miller and Aroon Escobar had two hits a piece, but if we’re really going to crown a hero of the lineup for the evening, that award needs to go to Caleb Ricketts.
Hitting a grand slam to take the lead in a potential championship clinching game has to be a top 3 baseball moment in a player’s career. For Ricketts to do so, a guy that isn’t a huge name in the system but may have a future somehow as a backup catcher, it’s got to be such a great feeling to have.
Reading bullpenned the game, using seven different pitchers to take control. No one pitcher was that bad while no one pitcher was that dominant, though Wei Hui Pan (2 IP, 0 R, 3 K) is really starting to look like another reliever they can develop from their pipeline.
