The Miami Dolphins began their rookie minicamp on Friday — hosting all 13 picks from the 2026 NFL Draft, plus a slew of undrafted free agent signings and camp invitees. One of those invitees is former Boston College and Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos — however, he’s not throwing balls in Miami Gardens today.
He’s catching them.
Castellanos was invited to try out as a wide receiver for Miami this weekend due to his speed and playmaking ability. In 2023 with Boston College, the former quarterback
threw for 2,248 yards and 15 touchdowns, but rushed the ball 215 times for 1,113 yards (5.2 yards per carry) and 13 more touchdowns. After an injury shortened his 2024 season, he transferred to Florida State for the 2025 season. There, he threw for 2,760 yards with 15 touchdowns and ran 137 times for 557 yards (4.9 yards per rush) and nine more scores.
A few days ago, NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted this video to his social media accounts showing Castellanos training for his move to wide receiver.
The Dolphins drafted three wide receivers during the 2026 NFL Draft — Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr. — but if Castellanos impresses this weekend, he could earn himself a longer look in South Florida. His ability to throw the ball could come in handy if the team were interested in using him as a gadget player in the future.
