The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge to the practice squad. They don’t need a corresponding move after defensive tackle Naquan Jones was poached by the Houston Texans.
Hodge was released on October 1 as part of an injury settlement. He played a significant role for the 49ers early in the season. He played 30 of 54 snaps against the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the year. Over three weeks, Hodge had played the fourth-most snaps. At the time, a healthy Jordan Watkins
had only played 13.
Hodge earned a roster spot by covering kicks. Now that he’s healthy, the 49ers will welcome back a versatile player like Hodge with open arms.
Kyle Shanahan will let us know which wide receivers will be practicing this week on Monday afternoon. There will be injury updates for Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, and Demarcus Robinson. If the team is adding Hodge to the practice squad and keeping Brandin Cooks on the active roster, it’s a sign Robinson might need more time — unless there are other roster-shuffling moves to make room for Robinson.
