Top Rank’s next big hope for a Puerto Rican star is Xander Zayas, who has now formally aligned himself with Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny in a marketing deal that he hopes will accelerate his brand in the
coming year. WBO super welterweight titleholder Zayas penned a deal with Rimas Sports, which is co-owned by Bad Bunny, which will work to pursue sponsorship, marketing, and other commercial partners for Zayas, as reported by ESPN.
“The publicity and marketing deal I just signed is to bring opportunities outside of the ring that I probably wasn’t getting before,” Zayas (22-0, 13 KOs) told ESPN. “Everybody knows what I can do in the ring, but this deal is huge for me as I plan to elevate my career outside of just boxing.”
If Bad Bunny can leverage almost any of his own star power to Zayas it would be of tremendous benefit being that he’s essentially the biggest Latin artist worldwide at the moment. But even with the increased exposure, it will still be up to Zayas to perform inside the ring if he’s to reach the heights that he and his team are hoping for.
To that end Zayas says he’s intending to have three fights in the coming year, starting in January. Zayas (22-0, 13 KOs) is most recently coming off of a unanimous decision win over Jorge Garcia Perez over the summer to claim the vacant WBO strap.
