If there was a major critique of Julian Nagelsmann during his time with Bayern Munich, it was his incessant tinkering and never really being able to settle on, well, anything.
Welcome to Terror Dome Germany
fans!
Per a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Nagelsmann will move Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich back to right-back…just a few months after declaring that the 30-year-old was returning to the central midfield:
Julian Nagelsmann is planning to start Joshua Kimmich at right-back against Luxembourg tomorrow. The coach has used him there in training all week.
On the surface. this makes perfect sense because Germany has no good options at right-back at the moment. However, this is the exact kind of indecision that marred Nagelsmann’s Bayern Munich tenure. It was only back on July 30th where Nagelsmann said this:
“As things stand, he [Kimmich] will return to the number six position because he is simply one of two or three players who will always play for their club,” Nagelsmann said.
“Given the short time we have until the World Cup, we don’t have the option to gamble too much on the position and risk having players who may only get 30 or 50 percent playing time at their clubs. Unfortunately, that risk exists with many other candidates for the number six position.
“We have to make sure we have players who are in rhythm. As things stand, we will move Josh back to the number six position. If the usual right-back candidates fail across the board – which I don’t expect – then that could change.”
Well…here we are.
