Otega Oweh has joined some elite company as a Kentucky Wildcat. After his most recent 23-point outing, Oweh has the fifth-most career 20-point games by a player over the last 20 seasons, per Corey Price.
Some elite scoring has been on display from the New Jersey native.
Oweh sits behind Antonio Reeves, Patrick Patterson, Jodie Meeks, and Oscar Tshiebwe on the list. Some very good company.
Oweh wrapped up his afternoon against Ole Miss with 23 points (6/12 FG); his 20-point second half was the reason the Wildcats picked up their fifth straight SEC win over the Rebels. His ability to score and get to the free-throw line late in the game was crucial in Saturday’s win.
Head Coach Mark Pope was asked about Oweh’s second-half dominance this season and gave a very honest answer. “You said that he’s fallen short in the first half season, and that he’s been really good in the second half. That’s the hallmark of this team…Maybe we’ve taken on that DNA.”
The SEC Preseason Player of the Year has really embraced his role in the latter half of the season. He is averaging nearly 20 points per game in SEC play. The Cats sit at 5-2 in conference play, where anyone can win it this season.
