After Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win at SV Elversberg, Vincent Kompany made a point of having a moment of embrace with youngster Maurice Krattenmacher, who scored a beautiful goal for Elversberg. The Belgian manager had his arm around Krattenmacher’s shoulder, had a beaming smile, and looked to share words of praise for the youngster as he was close to securing a historic point for Elversberg had it not been for Harry Kane’s 72nd minute winner for Bayern.
The 21-year-old had spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin after he had done a season long loan stint with SSV Ulm before Bayern wound up selling him to Elversberg this summer with the goal of getting solid Bundesliga experience. When Bayern sold him to Elversberg, there was a buy-back option included in the deal, as the youngster could still wind up having a future with the German Rekordmeister.
Furthermore, per information from Abendzeitung’s Patrick Strasser (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s hierarchy and Kompany are still hopeful that Krattenmacher will continue on in his development to the point where he could one day come back to the club. That’s one of the driving reasons behind why the club included the buy-back option in his deal with Elversberg when they sold him during the summer transfer window.
As such, a potential return to Bayern at some point is not out of the question for Krattenmacher, which the player himself was aware of after the narrow loss to the reigning Bundesliga champions. “Of course, it’s every young player’s dream to play for FC Bayern. But I’m someone who, especially at this age, wants to get regular playing time. I think sometimes you have to take what may seem like a step backwards in order to then take two steps forward,” the 21-year-old rationalized after the full time whistle.
In addition to Kompany singling out Krattenmacher for praise after the match, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl also noticed the form the Elversberg man has been in. “He seems to be on a roll at the moment,” Eberl exclaimed. It was his third goal of the season after he’d bagged a brace in Elversberg’s 4-3 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in match week two, which followed Elversberg’s week one win over Bayer Leverkusen.
