Barcelona assistant coach Marcus Sorg will be on the sidelines for the Blaugrana’s trip to the capital to face Real Madrid in El Clasico, and he admitted that he’d much rather have his boss in his place on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sorg was asked about the impact of Flick’s absence after his one-match ban due to a red card received last week against Girona was upheld despite several appeals by the club, and the assistant highlighted Hansi’s importance to the team but also
projected a ton of confidence that the team can still play at their best without the coach on the sideline.
“He’s the most important part of the team and so it’s a disadvantage of course. But it’s the same with the players, we have to deal with it. Everybody knows what he expects from us and I think we will do it.
“We have to do things right, apply pressure with and without the ball, push up the pitch if necessary… but we won’t change our way of doing things; it wouldn’t help us.
“In these games, everything is 50-50. Whoever performs best on the field will win.”
Barça will be without Flick, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, Gavi and Joan Garcia at the Bernabéu against an in-form Madrid team hungry for revenge after four decisive losses in El Clasico last season, so it’s safe to say the Catalans have quite the mountain to climb this Sunday.
