What makes Michael Olise tick?
For Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl, the answer is pretty simple — football.
And really, that might be it.
Eberl offered an entertaining insight into Olise’s character, pointing to a viral video from this summer that he believes perfectly captures the Frenchman. Olise was seen playing football in New York wearing nothing but socks, a moment that apparently says quite a bit about his personality.
“Michael is someone who simply wants to play football. A video
went viral this summer that describes him very well: he was playing football in New York wearing just socks. I love him, I love the way he is. Even if that can sometimes be difficult for journalists,” Eberl told Bild with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). But I get along extremely well with him. He is a wonderful footballer and someone whose attitude is: ‘Football is my life.’ And that’s exactly what we want.”
That final line might be the most important part for Bayern Munich and its fans.
Olise clearly has an unconventional personality (some would even say odd), but Eberl sees that passion for the game as a major positive. For Bayern Munich, that is exactly the type of mentality the club wants from one of its most talented attacking players. The skill is obvious, but having a player who lives and breathes football can be just as valuable.
While linked to a transfer to Real Madrid over the summer, those rumblings have ended for now, which has put the full focus back on Olise’s insane talent. For everyone, that is a good thing.
