The Seattle Seahawks had a few free agents brought in for a tryout this week, with one name standing out given his three years as a starting guard for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cordell Volson was drafted by Cincinnati in 2022, starting 48 games at left guard over three seasons. A difficult 2024 led to a contract restructure before last season. He was waived/injured by the Bengals in 2025 after suffering a shoulder injury in preseason, and ultimately signed with the Tennessee Titans as a free agent this
offseason. Volson didn’t make it past final roster cuts, with this play summing up his preseason.
Volson was most recently with the Green Bay Packers practice squad in September before being released.
On the 53-man roster, Seattle has Anthony Bradford and Beau Stephens as the backup guards to Grey Zabel and Quenton Nelson. There are no guards on the practice squad.
As for the two tight end tryouts: Chase Curtis spent eight years in college between baseball and football, making him a 26-year-old rookie. He was unable to crack the New York Jets 53-man roster after five seasons at TCU. Kenny Fletcher went undrafted out of Rutgers and has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts. Ben Sims is the lone TE on Seattle’s practice squad.
