After Darby Allin shared last year that Steve Borden was living on his lawn and training to follow his legendary father into the pro wrestling business, we didn’t hear much about the son of Sting for many
months. Adam “Edge” Copeland later shared that he and FTR had been training with Borden, who finally caught the wrestling bug helping out with Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution in early 2024.
But Borden’s making rapid progress lately. A couple months ago he wrestled his first public matches at Allin’s exhibition with punk artist Raymond Pettibon in New York City. Last month, he won his singles debut for Defy, the same Seattle-based independent promotion that helped launch Allin, Swerve Strickland, and Nick Wayne’s careers.
Now, last night (Dec. 10) at Dynamite Winter is Coming in College Park, Georgia, Borden had his first AEW match. Just like he did in Defy, Sting’s son worked with Kiran Grey. Borden is said to have pinned his fellow Darby-trainee after hitting him with an Icon-inspired crossbody.
Ortiz, formerly of “Santana and Ortiz”, worked his first AEW match since tagging with Eddie Kingston on a Collision episode in January of 2024. He lost to HOOK in another of the three dark matches before last night’s Dynamite.
