Rutgers men’s basketball has returned another promising young player from last year’s squad as guard Kaden Powers has announced that he will return to the Scarlet Knights for the 2026-2027 season, according to an announcement he made via social media.
Last season, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Powers appeared in 29 games for Rutgers and made 15 starts. Over that time, he averaged 6.8 points,
1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 34.9 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.7 percent from the free throw line. He showed clear flashes over the course of the season that made him a retention target for the Knights this offseason.
He did appear to hit a bit of a rough patch at the end of the season, but head coach Steve Pikiell has shown a lot of confidence in his ability and his development going forward.
Powers originally hails from Seattle and was the No. 255 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class when he committed to Rutgers. He also held offers from schools such as Idaho, James Madison, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, and Washington.
He isn’t the only one from his recruiting class to return to Rutgers, as guard Lino Mark announced his return earlier in the month. Those two, along with Jamicheal Davis and Tariq Francis, will provide the Knights with a lot of continuity in the backcourt.
