After Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win away to Wolfsburg, Vincent Kompany broke down the reasons we saw Wolfsburg stay in the match the whole time. Speaking to the press after the match, Kompany admitted the Wolves were a tough matchup.
“We played against a team that was ready to do absolutely everything to win the game. The first 10 minutes were decent, then we lost our momentum. So the opponent felt they can get something today and were dangerous. We lost the ball a lot and lost important duels. We did much
better in the second half — respect for how the team has reacted,” Kompany said (as recorded by @iMiaSanMia).
Most teams play at their top levels against Bayern, especially at home, but Wolfsburg had everything to play for — even a point could mean survival in the Bundesliga for another season. Urbig saved Bayern a few times with both saves and good decisions inside the box. If not for his performance and world-class goal from Olise, Wolfsburg could have taken one or three points from this match. Unfortunately for Wolfsburg, Kompany’s men were able to hold off Wolfsburg and bounce back from a Champions League disappointment and earned the close win.
