The already short-handed San Antonio Spurs suffered another blow on Sunday. Dylan Harper left the game with an apparent calf injury in the second quarter of the Spurs’ game against the Phoenix Suns. He
was ruled out for the rest of the game. Further details on the injury have yet to be disclosed.
Harper came down awkwardly after contesting a Nick Richards layup and limped to the other end of the floor. He was grabbing his calf before heading to the locker room. Harper was playing well before the injury; he had 12 points in 11 minutes.
Calf injuries must be taken with an abundance of caution. Superstars like Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton have rushed back from calf injuries, only to suffer far more serious Achilles injuries, believed to be linked to calf issues. Calf strains have varying return timelines, with minor strains having a 2-week recovery period and more severe strains taking 3 months.
The injury puts even more pressure on the return of star guard De’Aaron Fox, who has missed the first six games with a hamstring injury. If Harper misses significant time, Fox and other injured players like Jeremy Sochan and Luke Kornet will be crucial to continuing the momentum the team has experienced to start the season.
We will share injury updates as they are made public.
