In the first bold move of the 2026 NFL Draft, Kansas City Chiefs general manager worked the phones and came to an agreement with the Cleveland Browns to move up from pick No. 9 to No. 6.
There were a handful of exciting names on the minds of football fans when the Chiefs’ aggressive move was announced. Defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. from Miami, Ohio State defenders Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs, and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson from Arizona State, who was drafted eighth overall.
Mansoor Delane from LSU
rounds out the group as the player Kansas City actually selected, securing the draft’s top cornerback after the secondary lost starters at the position in Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson this offseason.
After greeting NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and posing in his new team colors, red and gold, Delane spoke with ESPN’s coverage team and exuded confidence in himself as deserving of the enormous move, but also revealed that Kansas City laid low in terms of communicating with him during the pre-draft process.
“The way I play the game, this confidence they have in me, they weren’t really on me too much in this process, but they said they just wanted to keep it quiet,” Delane shared. “Make that sneaky move, and they made the best move in the draft, so I’m excited.”
He followed up with some words of advice for himself.
“Don’t stop now, don’t stop now. You got what you dreamed of, but let’s make a mark on this league.”
