In news that will not make the home crowd happy, Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has been ruled out for Canada’s World Cup opener on Friday at 3PM EDT in Toronto, Ontario vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Canada coach Jesse Marsch address the matter in his press conference. The quote and context was captured by X account @iMiaSanMia:
Canada head coach Jesse Marsch confirms that Alphonso Davies will miss Canada’s World Cup opener against Bosnia tomorrow: “We did an MRI yesterday, he’s healing incredibly
well, but not at 100% just yet.”
It was always going to be a longshot for Davies to be ready for the opener, but fans — and the team itself — might have gotten their hopes up when Davies, the team captain, hit the training pitch earlier this week.
In truth, Bayern Munich would much rather prefer that Davies was fully healthy and not in danger of missing any of the World Cup, but Davies being held out likely will not make the Bavarians lose any sleep. After dealing with a torn ACL and two muscle injuries during the club season, Bayern Munich does not want to take any chances with one of its prized players.
