It is very plausible the majority of the populations of Mississippi and Louisiana will be tuned in when Ole Miss and Tulane kick off Saturday afternoon in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Oxford will become the most populous city in the state over night with more than 100,000 people combined in the stadium and Grove for the game and party of the decade. The old saying used to be, “We may not win every game, but we’ve never lost a party.” That saying has had a slow death the last five
years as the Rebels (11-1, 7-1 SEC) have had its most successful run in 60 years.
Tulane (11-2, 7-1 AAC) comes into Vaught Hemingway Stadium for a second time this year after a 45-10 drubbing in September. The score was not indicative of the overall game as the Green Wave rolled the dice and lost three times going for it on fourth down unsuccessfully. I wouldn’t expect anything different on Saturday as Jon Sumrall is likely looking to throw the kitchen sink at Ole Miss and new head coach Pete Golding to shock the college football world.
But the big question swirling around is “what channel is the game on?” It’s not the traditional options we are used to in the SEC with ABC, ESPN, or even the long lost cousin CBS with that pinhead Gary Danielson. On Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT, you’ll need to tune into TNT or TruTV to watch the Rebels and Green Wave play for a chance to advance to a Sugar Bowl date with the Georgia Bulldogs.
If you are in the unfortunate position to be working and needing to stream incognito, HBO Max will be live streaming the game, or maybe you’ll be on the golf course with the low to mid 60 degree weather and want to keep track of your parlays, you damn degenerate.
This is absolutely arguably the biggest sporting event to ever come to the state of Mississippi. Many, many thousands of people will be there, and many more will one day lie about being there. If you’ve ever believed in the Rebels, it will be must see TV if you can’t be there.
