The 2026 World Cup is over, and the United States Men’s National Team got a slight bump in the rankings. Today, FIFA released their world rankings, and the USMNT rose one spot to 16th in the world.
The team entered the World Cup ranked 17th, but got the one spot bump due to officially finishing 12th at the World Cup. The USMNT made it to the Round of 16, where they ultimately fell to Belgium.
Spain, who won the title on Sunday over Argentina, switched spots with their final opponent to once again be
ranked #1 in the world. The top 10 list was Spain (+1 spot), Argentina (-1), France, England, Brazil (+1), Morocco (+1), Portugal (-2), Belgium (+1), the Netherlands (-1), and Mexico (+4). Mexico, who also exited at the Round of 16 but officially finished 9th in the World Cup table, is the highest ranked Concacaf team, with the USA the second-highest ranked team in the region.
Co-hosts Canada remained level at 30th, while Panama had one of the biggest drops, falling 10 spots to 44th. They also lost the most points in the index of any team. Costa Rica, who didn’t make the World Cup, rose two spots to 51st, while Honduras rounded out the top five in Concacaf by falling one spot to 66th. World Cup debutants Curaçao remained level at 82nd, while Haiti, who made the World Cup for the first time in 52 years, fell five spots to 88th.
Norway made the biggest jump in the rankings, rising 12 spots to 19th in the world. Tunisia suffered the biggest drop, falling 12 spots to 57th in the world. The rankings will remain in place until after the newly created September-October window, which will allow teams to play up to four matches. The USMNT will play as many as four friendlies during that window while they await the results of the Concacaf Nations League group stage for League A. The USMNT moved to second in the Concacaf rankings, which means they will face the best runner-up from League A group play in the Nations League quarterfinals in November.
