The New York Jets are home in East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the Green Bay Packers in the Jets’ 2026 home opener. The Jets will be looking to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2015. Not coincidentally, 2015 was the Jets’ last winning season.
Despite the Packers’ superb franchise history, the Jets have historically had their way with them. The Jets are 9-5 all time against the Packers, including a 27 -10 thrashing of the Packers the last time these two teams faced each other in 2022.
The Packers opened their 2026 campaign with an ugly 39 -22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. They will be looking to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start, from which few teams recover to make the playoffs.
Let’s make a few predictions for the game on Sunday.
- The Jets revamped run defense held the Tennessee Titans under 70 yards rushing last week. They’ll excel again this week, holding the Packers’ running backs to less than 60 total rushing yards. The Packers are having serious trouble on the offensive line, and they are without Josh Jacobs at running back. The Jets take advantage.
- The Jets pass defense was excellent against an overmatched Cam Ward last week. Jordan Love is no Cam Ward. The Packers have a ton of weapons for Love to throw to if he gets time. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden have speed the Jets’ defensive backs can’t match. With Minkah Fitzpatrick missing in the back end, and Will McDonald hobbled in the pass rush, Love will find enough time to hit on multiple 30+ yard pass plays.
- After playing mistake free football last week, Geno Smith turns the ball over two times in the rain.
- Breece Hall puts up 100+ yards from scrimmage for the second straight game to open the season.
- The Jets finally break through with their first defensive turnover since the 2024 season. It isn’t enough as they lose the turnover battle and the Jets fall to the Packers and their big passing plays in a messy, rain soaked game, 20 – 16.
