Mateu Alemany has sent out a pretty strong message to former club Barcelona and their interest in Julian Alvarez.
The Atletico Madrid striker keeps on being linked with a move to Camp Nou and fuelled speculation this week by saying “who knows, maybe yes, maybe no” when quizzed on a possible summer exit.
Alemany says there’s no chance that Alvarez will leave at the end of the season and claims Atletico want to extend his contract.
“Like what happened with Antoine. He has a contract with us and he’s going
to stay. Julián clearly stated that he’s very happy at Atlético, and yet everything he says is interpreted in a certain way,” he told Movisar.
“He has four more years on his contract, and we hope he stays much longer, and even that it gets extended. I don’t see any news regarding Julián.
“There’s no issue; it’s just that people are looking for problems where there aren’t any. I agree with what the coach said yesterday. The real news is that he’s performing exceptionally well.”
Alvarez has also been linked with a return to the Premier League, with reports claiming that if Atletico do decide to let him go, it will not be for Barcelona.
