PSG defender Eva Gaetino was called up to the senior USWNT from the U-23 camp, the USWNT announced on Friday.
The 22-year-old center back has one previous appearance for the USWNT against Argentina in October
2024. She is in her third season with PSG, and previously played for Notre Dame.
She will fill the roster spot left open by forward Trinity Rodman, who withdrew due to an MCL sprain.
Coach Emma Hayes emphasized the significance of having the U-23 camp alongside the senior USWNT camp.
“This is the epitome of the value of the U-23 program,” said USWNT head coach Emma Hayes. “We have the U-23s training at the same site as the National Team, so we are easily able to call a player up and it’s important for the U-23s to know how much we value them.”
Hayes said that Gaetino has responded to feedback from the team and implemented changes they wanted to see.
“Eva is a player who has been in with the full team and in with the U-23s, but also out of both teams. No players’ journey is the same and certainly no one’s career takes a linear path,” said Hayes. “We gave Eva some pointed feedback over the past year, and she went back to her club, worked every day to get another chance at a call-up, and put into action things we wanted to see in her. She’s the most WNT-ready player in this U-23 camp so she’ll be a good addition to our training camp roster for the last week.”
