“The lowest point of your life can lead to the highest.” That quote is from Liane Moriarty. Life isn’t meant to be easy, nor should it be. The only way a person is able to grow and mature through the years is by going through adversity. Whether it’s losing a job or ending a relationship, moments like that can help a person grow, or they can let it affect them negatively.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson’s tenure as the Cleveland Browns quarterback hasn’t been what he or the team had envisioned. On top of
the legal issues, Watson has had to deal with season injuries and changes in his personal life as well. It would be disingenuous to think those events don’t affect someone mentally. Most players understand fans’ sentiment when it comes to their production.
One year removed from owner Jimmy Haslam calling the Watson trade a “swing and a miss,” the team is willing to give Watson another chance to redeem himself. Some fans are annoyed at the idea of playing Watson again due to his play being below standard and his off-field issues.
Watson sitting out the entire season while recovering from an Achilles tear could be viewed as a “blessing in disguise.” In Watson’s case, it is a blessing. Watson went from a respectable figure to being hated due to the lawsuits. His play hasn’t been near what it was when he was with the Houston Texans, and he’s playing for a team in which the fanbase has never fully embraced him, for understandable reasons.
In Cleveland, Watson has had multiple low points, including last season. However, instead of letting it consume him, he has done his best to overcome it. Watson’s work ethic has never been an issue, and it’s clear as day. It’s clear that Watson is trying to save his career.
The lowest points that he has endured can lead to his personal redemption story. It won’t end with him hoisting a Lombardi trophy, but if he plays at a decent level, his career can be salvaged, and he can play for another team if it’s deemed possible.
Is it possible? Maybe, but going through trials and tribulations can help bring the best out of you.
