France Football were never going to give Mohamed Salah the Ballon d’Or and everyone has basically known that since forever but I guess we’ve got to treat them not giving him the Ballon d’Or as news. So. There you go.
Salah had the most statistically dominant season of his career in 2024-25, racking up 47 goal involvements in 38 games last season and helping Liverpool to climb back up on their perch as the most successful club in the history of English football when they won the Premier League.
The
next best season by an attacker in the top five leagues was Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, with 36 goals in 31 games. Without a major international summer tournament, there was no Euros, Copa America, or World Cup to skew voting towards a player based on international results.
Still, France Football’s voters couldn’t see fit to grant him more than a fourth-place finish, while it was Paris Saint-Germain players who dominated, with Ousmane Dembele winning the actual Ballon d’Or.
As expected, and less controversially, PSG’s Luis Enrique was named manager of the season. Meanwhile, the goalkeeper Enrique forced out at PSG this past summer, Gianluigi Donnarumma, won goalkeeper of the year, relegating Liverpool’s Alisson to second.
Paris Saint-Germain were named club of the year with Vitinha third in Ballon-d’Or voting, Achraf Hakimi sixth, Donnarumma ninth, Nuno Mendes tenth, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 12th, Désiré Doué 14th, and João Neves 19th giving the French side eight of the top 20 according to France Football voters.
We all know PSG were really, really good last season but come the fuck on, France Football, have a little shame. Any at all, even.
In throwing Liverpool a bone news, Alexis Mac Allister cracked the top-30 and came in 22nd while Virgil van Dijk was 28th and summer signing Florian Wirtz was 29th. Oh, and another PSG player was in the top 30 mix with Fabian Ruiz 24th because of course.
