In a flurry of moves on Monday afternoon, several of the decisions to watch for the Milwaukee Brewers were decided.
In the least surprising move of the day, the team picked up RHP Freddy Peralta’s club option for 2026, which will pay him $8 million in his final year before hitting free agency. Two mutual options — RHP Brandon Woodruff and C Danny Jansen — were declined, with Woodruff opting out of his option and the Brewers passing on Jansen’s option.
Woodruff, whose option would have paid $20 million
for 2026, is now a free agent and will receive a $10 million buyout. Jansen’s option would have paid $12 million for 2026, but he’ll instead receive a $500,000 buyout.
Entering the offseason, Milwaukee had six players with options for next season. With Peralta, Woodruff, and Jansen’s options now decided, that leaves Rhys Hoskins, Jose Quintana, and William Contreras. As a reminder, those options are as follows:
- Rhys Hoskins: $18 million mutual option with a $4 million buyout
- Jose Quintana: $15 million mutual option with a $2 million buyout
- William Contreras: $12 million club option with a $100,000 buyout; Contreras is also in an arbitration year, so if the option is declined, he would go into negotiations. He’s projected to earn $11.1 million in arbitration, so it’s probably slightly more likely the Brewers pay the buyout and hope his arbitration salary comes in under $11.9 million.
The Brewers also added RHP Coleman Crow to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft in December. Teams have until November 18 to add long-tenured minor leaguers to the 40-man roster to protect them from December’s draft. For more details on that process, check out our key offseason dates article from earlier today.
With those roster updates, the Brewers’ 40-man roster currently sits at 38 players. Garrett Mitchell and Logan Henderson are also still on the 60-day IL, which would give the Brewers a full 40-man roster if Hoskins, Quintana, and Contreras remain with the team.
