It finally happened friends! We are back!
The Kool-Aid has been poured and we have lapped it up all offseason. It’s time for us to sit back, relax, and let these Huskers show us they are more than the hype.
What a way to start the season. The Huskers will be taking down the Bearcats under the bright Thursday Night Lights of Arrowhead Stadium. It’s too bad that Travis Kelce will have to see his alma matter lose on his home field, but he already got his big win this week so he can take a loss.
Anyway
let’s get down to business. Nebraska is going to head back to Lincoln with it’s first win of the season and these are your reasons why:
#1 NEBRASKA HAS NEVER LOST TO CINCINNATI
Okay, so I know the two teams have only met once. But guess who didn’t lose? It was Nebraska. Nebraska and Cincinnati played in Lincoln in 1906 and according to an old Omaha World Herald Post they “Whipped Them All Over the Gridiron and Took The Game By a Score of 41-0.”
So Nebraska will continue to this winning history tonight and it’s going to be a game that sets the tone for an awesome year!
#2 DYLAN RAIOLA’S LEADERSHIP
The Huskers are in year 2 of Dylan Raiola as QB1 and if the offseason chatter is to be believed, (which obviously it is) then Dylan Raiola has really tuned up his leadership skills and he is ready to lead this team with a year under his belt. Raiola is looking to improve on his 2,819 yards of passing, a freshman record at Nebraska. He has a key receiver returning with Jacory Barney Jr. and a new big target with the transfer of Dane Key.
Not to mention this will be the first full year of Dana Holgorsen at the reins of the offense. He and Raiola made a good team the last few games of last season and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this season.
#3 CINCINNATI LOST KEY PLAYERS ON OFFENSE
Brendan Sorsby returns at quarterback for the Bearcats, but they will have to reload at some other important positions. Corey Kiner who rushed for over 1,000 yards is gone and so are three of their top four receivers. A lot of this offense will be new or will at least not have seen as much playing time and that’s going to be tough in a big stadium that is sure to have Husker fans aplenty.
#4 THAT BLACKSHIRT DEFENSE
While the Huskers lost some big players like Nash Hutmacher and Ty Robinson, they are still returning some of their top defensive players. Of the ten blackshirts that were awarded this week seven of them were playing fairly regularly last season. The other three are transfers that we’re expecting big things from.
I think I’m most excited to see Ceyair Wright and Marques Buford Jr. continue to build on what they brought to the defense last season. I’m looking for one or both of them to start the season off with an interception.
#5 THE SEA OF RED
Anyone who knows Husker football knows that Nebraska fans travel. I expect Arrowhead to be hopping with the Husker faithful. It’s the perfect fun venue not to far from home and it’s a night game to start off the season.
It’s going to be hard for the Bearcats to focus when the crowd gets into it.
The Huskers are going to run away with this game.
The first victory of the year is tonight!
