Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou Gymnastics
On Tuesday, Mizzou gymnastics announced its schedule for the 2027 season. The Tigers will open up the 2027 season with the Zou to the Lou meet, which also features an all-Big 10 lineup of Iowa, Nebraska, and Illinois on Jan. 8.
SEC play for the Tigers begins at home at Mizzou Arena, where they will host Georgia, who was ranked no. 6 nationally at season’s end. MU will also travel to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with the Bulldogs, NC State, and Oklahoma for the Metroplex
Challenge in early February. This, along with the Zou to the Lou event, will be held on a podium (raised surface). The full release for the schedule is here.
Karen Steger will have more on the Tigers’ schedule soon!

(Jamal) Roberts said he took (Kewan) Lacy under his wing, helping him adjust to the running back room and learn the details of the position.”
“He’s a very talented running back, a very talented kid, love the guy,” Roberts said. “We still communicate to this day/ He’s a very funny guy. He liked to compete a lot. So I mean, there’ll be a lot of competing on the field Saturday with me.
It’s amazing to think how Mizzou has had both Hardy, Lacy and Roberts within the past three seasons. Among positional coaches in college football, where does Curtis Luper rank?
- From Matthew Gustafson | Tiger Talk Notes and Quotes: Ole Miss Edition
(Eli Drinkwitz) On the defensive improvement over the past two weeks: “Those guys are playing really, really hard, very physical in the trenches and tackling really well, which I think is the hallmark of a really good defense. I’ve been impressed with these these past two games. This game’s a whole new challenge; it’s a totally different challenge with the quarterback, the running back, wide receiver, and the tempo. So we have to transition from patting ourselves in the back to getting our cleats in the ground and getting set and making sure we’re ready to go.
Mizzou’s run defense has been awesome the past couple weeks.
- From Nate Edwards | Beyond The Box Score: Slop It Up!
Neither offense was elite but Missouri’s did enough over sustained blows. The Tigers outgained the Aggies by 2.2 yards per play, generated one more scoring opportunity while averaging nearly 4 points more per opportunity, and wound up being a little more efficient than their counterparts.
A gritty win of running the football and playing defense, a formula that worked against a team like Texas A&M.
- From Matthew Harris | Why Missouri’s potential step forward on defense starts on the perimeter
So, the more pressing question isn’t whether the program suffused this roster with enough size or brawn. It’s whether Gates and his staff have built a backcourt capable of reducing the frequency at which opponents cleanly drive the ball to the paint. Finding that answer takes on added urgency when Jason Crowe Jr. and Aaron Rower are slighter, leaner guards, the kind of frame opponents love to hunt in screening actions.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Tigers’ defense can keep players out of the paint.
- From Sam Snelling | Mike White and George hope to keep things rolling
Considering how poorly the Tom Crean era went, that’s a pretty good scenario. They’re operating more like the program did under Mark Fox, only with the league better, which means teams in the middle are going to the NCAA Tournament instead of vying for an NIT bid.
The Tigers will see the Bulldogs on Feb. 27 in Athens.
- The Revue: As straightforward as it gets
Victory felt assured early in the game and slowly but surely became more certain over the course of a few hours. It never backslid and never hit any road bumps. You just got to watch Mizzou drift its way to a win over a pretty good, if fatally flawed, Texas A&M squad.
That’s a great description of how MU performed the previous week.
