The Washington Commanders had two players from their practice squad poached this week. Unrafted free agent RB Robert Henry Jr. signed with the Seahawks, and veteran CB Terell Smith was signed by the Steelers. The Commanders roster was expected to have a few changes with WR/KR Jaylin Lane going to injured reserve after suffering a serious ankle dislocation and Marcus Mariota reinjuring his MCL.
The Commanders worked out QB Jake Plummer this morning per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. He noted that the
tream isn’t placing Mariota on IR, and said they weren’t planning on signing Plummer. He’s an option if needed later in the season. Mariota originally sprained his MCL in the first preseason game against the Dolphins. He didn’t play again until Jayden Daniels was injured in Week 2. The team has their bye in Week 7 giving them additional time for Mariota to return without needing to use an IR designation.
Washington also announced two roster moves to fill the two open spots on their practice squad. OLB T.J. Maguranyanga has been with the team as their International Pathways Program player, but Washington used that roster exemption for DT Jeffrey M’ba this year. Now he returns as a regular member of the practice squad, signing today along with S Darren Hall.
The Commanders are also signing WR Nick DeGennaro to the practice squad per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. This move isn’t official, and the team will need to make another roster move to open up a spot.
