Could Dillon Danis and “John Pork” settle their grudge in an Armenian grappling match? That’s what regional promotion Hype Fighting is suggesting they do.
Recent Contender Series signee and viral fan favorite
Magomed “John Pork” Zaynukov had a big weekend at UFC 322, getting cheered by fans wherever he went. But his biggest moment came just as the pay-per-view portion of the card was about to start: Zaynukov jumped Danis cageside and sucker punched him multiple times on camera. Now he faces potential criminal charges, problems getting back into the U.S., and a lawsuit from Danis.
He’s also being offered the opportunity to grapple Dillon Danis in Armenia for regional promotion Hype Fighting.
You may recognize Hype FC as the people that recently held the Arman Tsarukyan vs. Shara “Bullet” Magomedov grappling match in Yerevan, Armenia over the Christmas holidays. That bout was advertised as no judges and no time limits but did indeed have a time limit. After six minutes, the match ended and was declared a draw. Disappointing!
But the match did prove that Hype FC does have the money to entice UFC-level fighters to Armenia for bookings. Recently they announced the latest hot name for a future event: none other than the s**t disturber extraordinaire himself, Dillon Danis.
“Dillon Denis will perform at Hype Armenia in his homeland,” a Hype Fighting post on Instagram declared. “Which of the top is ready to oppose him? Did you know that Dillon is part Armenian?”
“I’m the biggest name grappling has ever seen,” Danis was quoted in the announcement. “You can’t find someone on my level. Send whoever you want. Just know you’re not getting them back.”
Hype Fighting recently proved they’re willing to think outside the box with their matchmaking by presenting proof they offered Hollywood star Tom Hardy the Tsarukyan fight before going with Shara “Bullet.” Now they’re going for another unlikely first choice for Danis: “John Pork.”
“We offer the solution for this conflict in the grappling match in neutral zone in Armenia at the stadium HYPE FC event,” Hype’s Instagram post read, adding that the bout would involve “record amounts of money for grappling.”
Despite being a part of Team Khabib, Zaynukov is not a grappler but a multiple time Muay Thai kickboxing champion. So Dillon Danis would have a big advantage coming into a grappling-only match. Then again, we have to ask what’s to stop “John Pork” from using the opportunity to illegally beat the crap out of Danis again?
Unfortunately, we have serious doubts a grappling match between these two will actually come together. In fact, we have serious doubts that Danis will travel to Armenia and compete for Hype Fighting at all. His last bout for Misfits Boxing in December was cancelled due to a concussion Danis claims he suffered at the hands of Zaynukov. We would not be surprised if this booking falls apart because of similar issues.
Then, when Danis sues the UFC, Madison Square Garden, and everyone else within a ten foot pole of the UFC 320 brawl, he can point to the Hype Fighting offer as more damages he suffered. That’s just our (and Logan Paul’s) theory, though. We’d love to be proven wrong!
