Clippers fall to 41-33
Columbus hung around despite getting outhit 10-5 and a ninth inning rally fell one run short of sending the game to extra innings on Sunday.
Ralphy Velazquez had a solid game, going 1-for-2 with two walks.
Angel Genao also impressed, going 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk. Joe Lampe has settled in nicely at Triple-A, going 2-for-4 with a double and Dayan Frias walked twice.
Starting pitcher Austin Peterson had a bit of a letdown after his spectacular last start. This time he allowed
four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings while striking out six and walking two.
Will Dion allowed a pair of inherited runners to score to inflate Peterson’s numbers and Trevor Stephan tossed a scoreless inning.
Akron RubberDucks 4, Altoona Curve 3
RubberDucks improve to 35-33
Akron did all of its damage from the first six batters in its order. Alfonsin Rosario had a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly while Jose Devers went 3-for-4 with a home run.
Nick Mitchell doubled and walked while Jaison Chourio went 1-for-2 with two walks.
Starting pitcher Cam Favors allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Matt Jachec earned the win with 1.1 perfect innings to close out the victory.
Lake County Captains 4, Great Lakes Loons 5
Captains fall to 38-28
Jace LaViolette reached base safely three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base while Welbyn Francisca tripled and walked and Dean Curley singled and walked.
Bennett Thompson and Logun Clark both reached base safely three times, each singling and walking twice.
Starting pitcher Melkis Hernandez was rock solid, allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 5.0 innings.
Jogly Garcia allowed three unearned runs in his two innings of work to take the loss.
Hill City Howlers 5, Augusta GreenJackets 8
Howlers fall to 31-38
Hill City struggled to get big hits in this one, with Juneiker Caceres having the team’s only extra base hit with a double.
Dauri Fernandez went 2-for-4 with a walk while Yelferth Castillo went 3-for-4 and Ty Howard went 2-for-4. Gabriel Rodriguez also walked three times and was caught stealing.
Starting pitcher Miguel Flores took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, but he also walked six batters.
Luke Fernandez struggled in long relief, allowing four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings and then Chase Mobley came out of the bullpen and got obliterated for four runs in 0.2 innings while walking a whopping five batters. We’ve reached a point where Mobley might need to go back to Arizona to work on his mechanics.
