It didn’t take long following news that Liverpool were parting ways with head coach Arne Slot on Saturday for basically everyone to reach the conclusion that Andoni Iraola would be the man brought in to try to get things back on track for the Reds following a frustrating and disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
In the days since it has become clear that, baring a shocking development, that is in fact what will happen, and today that outcome got a step closer with news that the Basque trainer and club had
hammered out a two-year deal and that he will be unveiled this week with the main job now being setting up his coaching staff.
Previous reports had suggested that Iraola would only be bringing a handful of Bournemouth assistants with him to his new club, and it appears likely that Tommy Elphick (assistant), Shaun Cooper (assistant), Pablo de la Torre (conditioning coach), and Tom Webber (analyst) will be arrive with him to round out his staff.
The two-year deal, while unusually short, is the same as the deal Iraola had at Bournemouth where he spent three years in total and agreed an extension after his first year. There has been some talk that there could also be room on his staff for an ex-Liverpool player, with Thiago Alcantara the most talked about option.
