The No. 2 Texas Longhorns (12-0) volleyball face their ninth ranked opponent of the season in Wednesday’s home matchup against the No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers (12-1).
The Longhorns lead the all-time series
against the Vols 12-1 and look to extend their undefeated winning streak in the 2025 season after recording seven straight sweeps. Tennessee is off to a 3-0 start in conference play in the midst of an 11-game game winning streak that features a ranked win over then-No. 21 Georgia Tech. The only loss of the season game against then-No. 15 Purdue in Nashville.
The balanced attack for the Vols includes the nation’s highest hitting percentage at .334 thanks to six players with 40 or more kills, led by senior outside hitter Hayden Kubik with 138. Sophomore middle blocker Chelsea Sutton leads the SEC with a .448 hitting percentage. Defensively, Tennessee is holding opponents to a .141 hitting percentage that leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally, led by Sutton’s 56 blocks.
The Longhorns are currently one of two undefeated teams left in the country, and although Texas doesn’t hit at the high percentage of Tennessee, the Horns do lead the nation in kills per set (14.90) and assists per set (13.85). Junior outside hitter Torrey Stafford ranks 29th nationally with 4.34 kills per set, good for fifth in the SEC. Texas has at least one player in the top-10 in each of the main six categories.
