The Stuart Sternberg era in Tampa Bay is officially over.
The Patrick Zalupski era is just beginning.
We don’t know all of the names involved, yet, but we do know what roles the new ownership will be taking with the team.
Patrick Zalupski headlines the group and will serve as the control person with MLB and be the Managing Partner and Co-Chair of the team; Bill Cosgrove, the other primary investor of the group, will serve as the other Co-Chair.
Ken Babby, who is already well attuned to running a professional
baseball team, will be the team’s Chief Executive Office. Prior to joining the Rays ownership group, Babby still currently owns the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (the Miami Marlins Triple-A team) and the Akron RubberDucks (the Cleveland Guardians Double-A team).
Those are the big three joining the Rays front office from the new ownership group. Meanwhile, the following names will serve on the Executive Advisory Board:
- Dan Doyle Jr
- Doug Hertz
- Fred Ridley
- Matt Silverman
- Robert Skinner
- Will Weatherford
- Dr. Rick Workman
There are still several members of the new ownership group that have yet to be announced. The Tampa Bay Times reports that the team announced they will be soon listing “a robust group of limited partners with deep connections to the Tampa Bay region.”
There will be a news conference later on this morning at 11:30 a.m. that will be covered live by MLB Network, the Rays official YouTube page, and Bay News 9.
