When Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala entered the team’s 2-1 loss to FC Augsburg in the 61st minute as a substitute for Lennart Karl, it represented a good chance for the attacking midfielder to get some
extended run.
It did not go as planned as Musiala could not track his mark to prevent the game-winning goal. Regardless, it was Musiala’s most significant playing time of the season, which was a necessary step on his journey on the way to full health.
“I’m alive again. I see the injury as a big learning curve. You learn more about yourself and are tested the most. Rehab isn’t fun. It’s always something worse than the previous one. What you do is come back in the best shape and hopefully better than before,” Musiala told FCBayern.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The way everything went, I couldn’t have felt any better. I love being on the pitch so much. The feeling of watching games is completely different to being on the pitch. You realize that even more after such an injury. Now it’s a new chapter for me — with a new number. Robben was my most favorite player in my childhood with the number 10. You have a big responsibility when you wear the number. I hope to come back as a better player.”
Musiala’s game time will likely ramp up again from here, but the Bavarians have handled things well with the Germany international so far and will likely continue to make this a gradual progression. Against FC Augsburg, though, the jump from three minutes last weekend to over 30 minutes might have been too much for the attacker, who is still not close to his optimal form.
