“The Machine” will re-tune.
Super-hyped Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) prospect Malcolm Wellmaker suffered a surprising unanimous decision loss to newcomer Ethyn Ewing at UFC 322 this past weekend
(Sat., Nov. 15, 2025) inside Madison Square Garden.
Following the upset, Wellmaker took to Instagram to share an emotional reaction to the first setback of his professional career.
“I fought my heart out last night and came up short. A dream-come-true slipped right through my fingers and my heart is twisted in pain from how many people I feel like I let down.
I don’t know what God has planned for me… but whatever it is I have absolute faith that it’s what’s best for me. This moment, just like all the moments before, is a blessing. I’ll learn from it, make the improvements, and come back with the same smile I had before, grateful to be here.
Thank you to all my supporters out there. The ones who love me for my story and my heart. I honestly had just as many people reach out to me personally after I lost as I did when I won. And that brought real tears to my eyes. I love you guys dearly, and I look forward to making you all proud again. See y’all soon.”
Wellmaker (10-1) not only tasted defeat for the first time, but also saw his 10-fight win streak snapped. Even so, “The Machine” put together a breakout 2025 that put him firmly on the radar.
The 31-year-old announced himself in a big way at UFC Kansas City, flattening Cameron Saaiman in under two minutes to earn a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus (watch highlights). He followed it up by icing Kris Moutinho in less than three minutes in his home state of Georgia (watch highlights).
A big bounce-back fight seems inevitable in early 2026 as Wellmaker looks to re-tune and rebuild his momentum.
