The Tennessee Titans unveiled their complete 2026 regular season schedule last week. Littered with storylines, starting with Robert Saleh and the New York Jets in Week 1, our eyes immediately diverted to the final home game. Whatever it is, it’s going to be the last game at the current iteration of Nissan Stadium.
The NFL did the Titans a solid. The final contest at Old Nissan Stadium will occur against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 on January 3rd. There are a ton of storylines in that game that make
it a worthy finale before moving into New Nissan Stadium in 2027.
Aaron Rodgers just re-signed with the Steelers. There will obviously be a lot of conversation surrounding Coach Saleh and Rodgers heading into that game. Saleh coached him for multiple seasons with the Jets, and it started with Super Bowl aspirations, but ended ugly after complete disappointment.
There’s also the old-time Titans/Oilers-Steelers rivalry to consider. The Titans and Steelers played in the AFC Central division, igniting a long-lasting rivalry before the Houston Texans got their expansion team and the NFL realigned divisions to create the AFC South.
The Oilers lost to the Steelers in back-to-back AFC Championship Games in 1978 and 1979. Warren Moon and the Oilers lost a wild-card heartbreaker in overtime during the 1989 season. The Titans got their revenge in 2002, beating the Steelers 34-31 in overtime that featured a controversial running-into-the-kicker penalty on Joe Nedney.
The Titans and Steelers have a storied history together, dating back to the Oilers and AFC Central days. The Saleh and Rodgers storyline makes for a better modern-day storyline. The NFL knew exactly what it was doing when it scheduled the Steelers as the final opponent in the current iteration of Nissan Stadium.
