Wrestling wars, injured champions, and Triple H’s bachelor party are some of the stories covered in today’s rumors. Let’s see what exactly is being said about these topics!
Top rumor of the day: Rhea Ripley & MJF injuries
Here’s the latest word going around about a couple of injured top champions in WWE and AEW.
As far as AEW World Champion MJF’s knee injury is concerned, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter says, “The knee is swollen and in pain but whatever is planned for [Forbidden Door] is not in jeopardy.” It was reiterated that MJF is “1 million
percent” doing what was originally planned for the AEW world title at that pay-per-view event on June 28 in San Jose.
Meanwhile, WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley appeared on last night’s SmackDown wearing a knee brace, and Michael Cole claimed that she was banged up in her title defense against Jade Cargill at Clash In Italy.
However, there is a video of Rhea getting a hot tag while working a WWE house show match in France a couple days after Clash In Italy. There are also fan accounts of a house show after that in Spain that indicate Ripley did not get physical and had trouble moving around. As a result, there is some speculation about whether her injury actually occurred (or got worse) at a WWE house show.
The rest of the rumors!
- The WWE shareholders lawsuit was supposed to begin on Monday, June 8. However, Bloomberg was told that “the planned four-day trial was no longer on the Delaware Chancery Court’s calendar.” It’s not known why it was removed. One possibility is that an out-of-court settlement is being reached after Vince McMahon and Nick Khan were sanctioned by the judge for destroying evidence.
- Dana White invited TKO Board member Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to attend UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, but Vanity Fair was told that he isn’t planning to be there. That isn’t helping the event’s issue with a lack of celebrity star power.
- Even though WWE’s attempt to counter-program AEW’s All In pay-per-view last year with an NXT Great American Bash (GAB) and Goldberg’s retirement match was a failure, The Observer said WWE thinks things will be different when GAB goes against Forbidden Door on June 28. WWE’s mindset is that “the network component will be the difference from last year,” because NXT’s show is on The CW this time, rather than Peacock. There’s also the fact that Forbidden Door is a weaker event for AEW than All In.
- Speaking of wrestling wars, WON notes that “Tessa Blanchard appears to be caught in the crossfire of the wrestling promotional war. Basically, TNA doesn’t want a wrestler on their TV working for CMLL” given WWE’s aggressive stance towards competing against CMLL right now.
- On his YouTube channel, former WWE star Maven said the company “actually forced” the wrestlers to go to Triple H’s bachelor party on a Tuesday night at a strip club. The one guy who missed most of the party was Triple H himself, who only showed up for the final 20 minutes.
