On her latest Making Monsters, Taylor Doll is joined by former linebackers coach of New Mexico State, Coach Bobby McMillen, who now coaches linebackers at Southeast Missouri State, about his former player, Chicago Bears rookie Keyshaun Elliott. McMillen and Elliot spent two years together with the Aggies before Elliot transferred to Arizona State.
Coach McMillen, who grew up a Bears fan in Naperville, discusses Elliot’s versatility, his blitz ability, and dives into his personality in the huddle.
McMillen also shares his thoughts on the similarities between Elliott and current Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson.
Elliott made an immediate impact at New Mexico State, and it wasn’t just on the field.
“We brought in Keyshaun and just knew with his athleticism and his size and his strength that he was a guy that was going to play a significant amount of snaps for us as an 18-year-old,” McMillen said about Elliot’s freshman year. “That’s exactly what he did. You know, he appeared in every single game for our first year at New Mexico State and did extremely well. He’s an unbelievable blitzer. Plays super hard sideline to sideline. Just wants to be on the field, right? And he showcased that every day in practice and with his work ethic and how he approached every single day.”
“You know, sometimes you, as a college football coach, have to kind of pull your young guys along with you, right? They’re 18 years old. They’ve got all this freedom now and all these things. And Keyshaun was not that guy, you know, he was about football. He was about academics. He was all about the right things that you would expect from an older player, and we were fortunate enough to get that out of an 18-year-old Keyshaun.”
Give Taylor’s show a listen in either of the embeds below, and let us know your thoughts on Elliot’s place on the 2026 Bears.
