Following this gameweek, the league pauses for two weeks. With Liverpool facing Arsenal, managers who prefer to avoid players in high-profile clashes may find their options limited, as these two sides are among the only three clubs to have secured maximum points so far.
We have now put together our list of top player picks for FPL gameweek three ahead of the Saturday deadline.
Goalkeepers
Vicario (£5.0m, Tottenham vs Bournemouth)
Two clean sheets in two matches to start the season, combined with eight saves, make Vicario an undeniable inclusion.
His consistency between the posts leaves little reason to overlook him in the squad.
Henderson (£5.0m, Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace)
Villa haven’t scored yet this season, and with Palace’s defence looking solid, Henderson’s got great backing.
Defenders
Van de Ven (£4.5m, Tottenham vs Bournemouth)
Spurs are a totally different beast with Van de Ven in the lineup. Big chance here—they need to take advantage while the two teams with full points clash at Anfield.
Livramento (£5.0m, Leeds Utd vs Newcastle Utd)
Livramento has started Newcastle’s first two matches, and despite the club’s struggles on and off the pitch, they now have a prime opportunity to secure their first three points of the season as they visit the newly promoted side this gameweek.
Van den Berg (£4.5m, Sunderland vs Brentford)
Van den Berg’s been solid since last season, and this trip to Sunderland is another chance for him to show his defensive strength and maybe even bag a clean sheet.
Midfielders
Cullen (£5.0m, Man Utd vs Burnley)
Bit of a surprise pick here, but Cullen’s actually the second-highest scoring midfielder right now. With United struggling at the back—especially against set pieces—his visit to Old Trafford could be interesting.
Grealish (£6.5m, Wolves vs Everton)
Looked like the old ‘Captain Jack’ again after his move from City—came on as a sub in the opener, then grabbed two assists when handed a start in the second game.
Mbeumo (£8.0m, Man Utd vs Burnley)
Normally, you’d back United players at home to a promoted team, but after crashing out to a League Two side midweek, things look grim. Mbeumo, with his role and EPL experience, still feels like a solid option.
Forwards
Pedro (£7.6m, Chelsea vs Fulham)
João Pedro hit the ground running—1 goal and 2 assists last week show just how quickly he’s settled in and clicked with his new teammates.
Richarlison (£6.7m, Tottenham vs Bournemouth)
Backed by new management and strong midfield support, Richarlison is enjoying the best form of his career. With Bournemouth weakened by the loss of several key defenders, this could be an ideal opportunity for him to extend his fine run.
Ekitike (£8.7m, Liverpool vs Arsenal)
What a signing Ekitike has been for Liverpool. If there is one player to watch in this weekend’s clash of titans, it is him. Still new to the league, defenders are yet to figure him out, and with two goals and an assist already this season, he has proven he is the real deal.
